Group one phonics: o-e, oe, language session, ew, ue, tricky word asked
Group two phonics: tricky word have, consonant blends: nt, mp, lp, lt, xt.
In English we had been set the challenge of creating an information text for jigsaw Jack and jigsaw Jenie who haven’t been to a farm before. We have written sections titled ‘what is a farm?’, ‘what animals live on a farm?’ and ‘what sounds can you hear on a farm?’. The children wrote beautiful sentences and many used capital letters and full stops correctly. We have so many more children accurately using finger spaces too which is incredible.
In Maths we have been consolidating our learning and completing fun activity sheets where we get to apply all of our wonderful maths knowledge that we have developed over the year. We answer the questions together and the children have enjoyed pretending to be the teacher and marking their own work.
In PSHE we reflected on our time in reception and what our favourite memories are. We talked about how we went to the Eden project with the whole school, our trip to the theatre, our trip to the beach and the church. We remembered doing our Christmas performance and making clay models on the field of mini beasts. The children all said they have really enjoyed choosing time this year.
In PE the children enjoyed applying all of their throwing, catching, jumping and balancing skills to take part in a circuit of activities. They threw bean bags, balanced along benches and had to jump safely off of equipment.
The children have one final week of reception left and are really looking forward to being in class Cremyll.

Phonics: tricky word Mr, i-e, y (igh), I (igh), ow
Tricky word: have, sp, sn, sm
This week we have enjoyed some hot-seating in English and pretended to be some of the farm animals at the end of the story and imagined what they would have said. We have also written a speech bubble for them – we are working so hard on finger spaces.
In Maths we have been consolidating our knowledge and have been challenging ourselves to extend our repeating pattern knowledge. We have progressed from an AB pattern to an ABBC pattern. We have also been exploring water and how adding things into water can make the level rise.
We had a special visitor today who came and spoke to us about climate change and the impact it has on the ocean. We talked about things that we could do to help prevent the oceans getting even hotter such as turning off lights and recycling more of our rubbish. We designed some fish from the future that were vibrant and so colourful.
In RE we looked at another Bible story of when Jesus met Zaccaeus. We had to go on a treasure map hunt to find clues to see what our new story would be. We learned that Zaccaeus was a tax collector and not many people liked him. Jesus taught people that they should be kind to all people.
It has been so lovely to see the children engaging in lots of independent writing!

Group two: cl, fr, pr, br and tricky word ‘do’.
In English we have started a new book – What the Ladybird Heard. We have been on a listening walk around the school pretending what the ladybird would hear if she was in the different places. We have been acting out the story and enjoyed pretending to be Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len. We then wrote a speech bubble to say what she would have hear din our choice of place.
In Maths we have been consolidating our previous learning. We have been counting forwards and backwards, using numicon to see what numbers to 5 are made up of. Eg, 3 is made of 2 add 1.We have also been practising recognising amounts without having to count and played a fun game of bingo.
In PSHE we have been thinking about how we feel about going into year one. Lots of us are feeling quite proud of the fact that we are growing up. Some of us are feeling a little angry about having to move classes. We talked about how these feelings are normal and that we will soon settle into our new class.
In RE we looked at another Bible story – David and Goliath. This story shows us that God is powerful as he gave David the courage the take on the giant and kept him safe.

The children have taken home a white maths booklet – this isn’t homework but a chance for them to practise their maths if they fancy.

This week we really used our kindness value and played alongside the new class Plym children who will be joining us in September.
Group one phonics: ay, a-e, eigh, ei, ey, ea and ea.
Group 2: Tricky word ‘said’ and sounds: sk, gl, cr, sc and tw.
In PSHE we have been looking at how we have changed. We started as a baby and then grew into a toddler, child and we are yet to become teenagers, adults and elderly.
In PE we have been working on our throwing and aiming skills and had to pretend to be zoo keepers feeding some of the animals in their enclosures. We had to look where we wanted to throw our bean bag and we found we had more control if we used an under-arm technique.
In English we have worked very hard to illustrate and write our own version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We worked out what the beginning, middle and end was and then wrote our own. On Friday afternoon class Cremyll came up and we used our confidence value to read our stories to them.
In Maths we have been thinking about prepositions and we read the story of Rosie’s Walk. We then had to get three cubes and listen to instructions about which ones had to be on top or underneath and see if we could make the correct model to match. We then had to find a card with a picture on and copy the image, ensuring the correct colour was in the correct place.
On Thursday we had a GB athlete visit the school and we were so excited to see how many medals he had and how he did a flip in the air! We did some fitness activities with him and we were really good at the press ups!
The children helped to move the classroom around and are now very proud of how much tidier and how much more space there is.
The children have been enjoying Lego and coloured cubes this week and creating some very wonderful models. We have had aeroplanes with super propellers!

Another busy week in class Plym!
This week in Phonics we have been:
Group 1: tricky word ‘people’ and phase 5 sounds: wh, ph and a language sentence where they had to write a tricky sentence.
Group 2: tricky word ‘so’ and consonant blends: sl , nd and grand writing words and sentences using these.
In PE we learnt how to take part in a relay race and talked about how we could be more efficient.. Looking where we are going, running straight ahead, having our arm out ready to receive the bean bag etc.. It was lovely to see the children begin to organise themselves and start coaching each other.
In PSHE we built on our previous session of labelling body parts to talk about foods and drinks that would be good or not so good for our bodies. We decided that the fruits would be okay because the sugar in them is natural but the sugar in wine for example, or a lollipop, wouldn’t be so good for usto have everyday.
In RE we have started a new topic of ‘what stories are special and why’ and we introduced this by talking about objects that we have that are special to us and why. How do they make us feel and who gave them to us. We then talked about the special texts for a Muslim is the Qur’an and the special text for a Christian is the Bible. We talked about what stories are special to us. Someone suggested a class story because it is funny and makes them laugh. Someone else suggested another book because their mummy reads it to them so it reminds them of special and cosy times.
In English the children have been writing about what the hungry caterpillar had been eating. The children wrote full sentences with many even challenging themselves to write three and use the word ‘and’ to extend them even further.
In Maths we have been learning about sharing equally and have then progressed on to learning about odd and even numbers. If a number cannot be shared equally between two groups then it must be odd.
The children have enjoyed making special cards for Sunday.

Group one: phase 4 language sessions to apply all of their phase four consonant blend knowledge.
Group two: Review ear, introduction to phase 4 and some consonant blends and we wrote the sentence ‘Can I have a plum?’.
We have just finished up the week with our Beach Tribe trip. I could not be prouder of Class Plym and Class Cremyll for how they conducted themselves in front of the public and the BeachTribe leader. They have solved riddles, created beach sculptures and talked about beach safety. The children played lots of games too and enjoyed having their lunch in the sunshine.
This week we have started our new book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children have enjoyed retelling the story and counting all of the food that he ate. We liked making links to the catterpillars that we have just had in class. The children worked in pairs to story food into healthy and unhealthy and then the children worked in pairs to write labels for all of the food that he ate in the story.
In Maths we have been looking at doubles. We have been singing a really catchy doubling song and have been using dominoes and numicon to help us visually see double an amount and help us to count the total. We played a fun game too with dice and a partner and had to try and roll a double and say what they added up to.
In PSHE we started to look at our body parts and labelled a big outline of a body. We talked about external and internal organs. The children knew lots!
In outdoor learning we made stick and leaf caterpillars by threading leaves onto sticks.
