The end of the Autumn Term.
A large thank you goes to almost all of the class for beautiful singing on the steps of Mount Edgcumbe House, especially considering the weather!
This week we have been finishing the last few areas of our topics and undertaking Christmas crafts. On Wednesday we had a fabulous Christmas Dinner prepared by Mrs Boyle and our Christmas party on Friday.
We missed out on Wildtribe this week and this has been moved to the FIRST FRIDAY, 6th January 2023.
A reminder, even though we are on holiday please can you encourage your child to read most days!
EVERY WEDNESDAY please can your child bring their own book.
Enjoy your Christmas break and see you all bright and fresh in 2023!

The penultimate week!
Alongside our whole school production this week, we have been starting to finish our topics this week.
In maths, Year 3 have completed the topic area for this term on multiplication and division. We also know that division can be sharing or grouping. We do need to learn our 8 times table facts. Year 4 have also been creating their own addition and subtraction sums using dice.
In history we have made pyramids from nets and found out information about them including no one is really sure how they got the blocks of stone so high. We have also created a poster about the Ancient Egyptians including facts on; the River Nile, mummies, farming, Tutankhamun, Pyramids and extra information that we have found out. Looking at pictures of environmental change we were able to identify some of the changes and the impact they might have within science.
A reminder that some of our class will be singing at Mount Edgcumbe on Saturday.

Week ending 2nd December
Another busy week,
On Monday some of us went to Bishop Cornish School in Saltash where we created Christmas poems with other schools.
Tuesday was ‘Aspirations Day’ when we had visitors and they discussed what jobs they did and how they got their jobs. We had an architect, accountant, film maker from ITV and a Colonel from the army who was in charge of between 500 and 1000 soldiers. She had travelled a lot and worked for the United Nations.
In maths both of our year groups have been carrying on with multiplication and division. Please can we continue to learn our times table facts.
Year 3: (10X, 2X, 5X) 3X, 4X and 8X
Year 4 (All of Year 3) and 6X, 7X, 9X, 11X and 12X
We have been carrying on rehearsing our Christmas production as well as making twig Christmas trees for Millbrook. We have nearly finished our Ancient Egyptian topic and have found out about farming and some of the problems Egyptian farmers used to have, including hippopotamuses eating the grain. We also found out about mummies and mummification. Did you know that they pulled the brain out through the nose with a long hook? They also cut the left side open and pulled the insides out by hand! We had to listen carefully to Mr Gargan as he gave us the sentences to write about.
Thank you for all the support for the Christmas fair and have a relaxing weekend.

This week we have been doing assessments most morning.
On Tuesday with the wild weather we had Wild Tribe and did some fantastic knots, a highwayman’s hitch and a cobra. We created little people. In addition we whittled sticks and decorated them.
Both Year3 and Year 4 have been doing multiplication, with Year 4 doing division (sharing and grouping) as well using 3X, 6X and 9X table facts. Year 3 are just at the beginning of the unit on multiplication and have been looking at grouping and arrays.
2 X 3 = 6
X X X (2 groups of 3)
On Tuesday, it was a hundred years to the day that the tomb of Tutankhamun was opened by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon. We found out that Tutankhamun was 8 years old when he became pharaoh and had a really bad temperature. He also had walking sticks because he had a disability with his foot.
In computing we learnt about electronic emails and online communities. We found out that we need to ‘speak kindly’ when online and make sure that we are communicating with who we think we are. Is a name on the screen with they really say they are? We thought about online safety:
1 Stop!
2 Tell a trusted adult.
Scripts and costume letters have gone home but if your child is ‘Poland’ they need red and white. If ‘Eire’, orange, white and green.
On Wednesday we had a letter back from Tom at the Eden Project responding to the letters we wrote back in October. Click in the link below. Also another wonderful, Mrs Green and Reuben made a surprise visit to our class.
Have a lovely weekend,
Tamar
This week in maths Year 3 have been doing column subtraction taking both 3 digit and 2 digit numbers away. At the beginning of the week Year 4 started the unit on multiplication and division. We have looked at 3X, 6X and 9X tables with division as well. We all need to learn these (as well as the other times tables ) at home so we are really quick.
The DfE guidance for 2023 Multiplication Check has also been sent home for Year 4’s.
We have now finished our English ‘Ruckus’. In pairs we interviewed each other, as either Jesse or Frank for a witness statement. Next we made headlines that were either alliterative (same sounds) or rhyming, for example, ‘Terrible Train Trauma’ and ‘Tall Fall’. Finally we combined all our learning to create a newspaper and checked it against a marking grid.
Next week we will be doing assessments for English and maths.
Within history, we have continued to find out about the Egyptians and the importance of the River Nile. We found out that the Nile flooded virtually every year and left black mud (Ar). Also the Egyptians used a shaduf (a balance crane) for lifting water out of the Nile for the crops. We have been learning numbers in French. For PSHE we looked at gender stereo typing and different jobs we can do. Carrying on with finding out about Vincent Van Gogh we looked at his painting of the sunflowers and the story of ‘Camille and the sunflowers’. Even though he did not sell one painting in his life, ‘The Sunflowers’ is worth about £75 million pounds.
Wild Tribe was great, even though it was a bit wet. We made leaf casts and hanging decorations as well as fires so we could toast bread.
There is a letter about Wild tribe in your child’s bag.
Have a lovely weekend,
Tamar
Week ending 11th November
Another busy and tiring week!
A reminder that Wild Tribe is on TUESDAY.
In the afternoons, each day we have been swimming to Saltash Leisure Centre. We have had a great time and we have all used our confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
For maths, Year 3 have been continuing subtracting numbers by using the column method both across 10’s and 100’s. Year 4, have completed the unit on area (the space covered by a flat closed shape). We have not been able to carry on with Ruckus (which we will do next week) but have focussed on past tense verb endings. Firstly just adding ‘ed’ to verbs, then we have looked at verbs ending in e, where we cross off the ‘e’ and add ‘ed’. On Friday, we looked at verbs with the short vowel sound and ending in a consonant, where we double it and add ‘ed’
Walk – walked
Bake – baked
Clap - clapped
Have a great weekend.
Class Tamar
Today, 100 years ago the tomb of Tutankhamun was found by Howard Carter.
In maths we have the Year 3 have been doing column addition, firstly without carrying and then with carrying tens. Year 4 have finished the addition and subtraction unit. We have estimated answers and subtracted 4 digit numbers.
We have continued with Ruckus, writing the lead article which was two or three sentences long to catch the reader. After learning about persuasive letters we ‘at a distance’ wrote a letter complaining about the Big Bad Wolf. On Friday we halved and quartered dictionaries to find words quickly.
In the foundation subjects we have learnt about greetings in French. We made a question tree for science using post it notes and writing on our tables. In PSHE we have started thinking about families and connections. We also found out why having a strong password in computing is really important and the importance of privacy settings. We have started an exciting book called, ‘Charlie Turns Into a Chicken’ by Sam Copeland.
We have home learning this week, Maths and Spellings which need to be back in school by next Thursday.
Yours faithfully,
Class Tamar
